Mr William Smith Funeral Images

Wolverhampton said goodbye to another Elder of the Caribbean Community age 94 years old, Mr William Smith Sunrise - 18th December 1920 / Sunset - 20th May 2015...

Mr William Smith Eulogy read by one of his daughter, with such enthusiasm, because of what her father add achieved, she was truly proud of her father…

I think one of the things that struck me, was that he was part of that Generation, that understood the meaning of the Word Community Spirit and Unity in the 50s. When men who came to Great Britain for a chance of a better life, would share rooms in a house, so while one was at work the other would be in bed sleeping…

Central Heating was for many just a dream, since many would experience cold winters, seeing ice on the floorboards of the rooms they were renting. The average take home wage after taxes for many was on about £6 - £8, and out of that large amount of money they had to pay all their living expenses, as well as put something to one side, by means of the Caribbean way of saving back then called a Pardna, with someone who you knew you could trust with your money…

Many were saving to buy a house, or they were saving to bring to the UK their sweat arts or their wife, including Children. Mr William Smith was one of the good Fathers, since he brought his wife and five children to the Uk. The reason I find this a loving gesture too his kids so special, is that so many fathers did not send for their sweat arts or their Children, which history about this generation as testified, created its own problems…

However if today’s generation had the same Community Spirit and Unity like those in the 50s, I wonder where the Caribbean Community would be today economically, since for some reason, we seem to have lost our way…

Be at peace Mr William Smith, until the resurrection hope that you were waiting for, for many of your friends and family who went before you, becomes a reality…
