A beautiful image from a setup photo shoot, is not the same as doing a fee-paid job, so please do not get carried away with every wonderful photo shoot image you see on social media that is part of a demonstration to advertise a new piece of kit like a Camera, Lens or Location Lights, or even part of a photography workshop setting.
Because trust me, not every fee-paying client will give you the amount of time many spend on a photo shoots to capture a beautiful image like with a model, or they are as easy to work with.
Generally, photographers will use a friend or someone who has the time to be a model for the day in return for a fee or images in exchange for the time spent on a photo shoot.
A fee-paying shoot with a client for many professional photographers may be time limited, with one assistance if they are lucky with just the kit they need to get the job done.
If the photo shoot is a model shoot, then I always recommend a chaperone to be there as well, and many chaperones have loved the experience of assisting a photographer over the years.
Sometimes I see new kit being sold by new photographers, and I sometimes wonder if they just were caught up in the moment with the hype, when they made their investment in photography equipment.
In seeing a photographer who they admire, and the images they have produced, and they reason with them self’s, that they must have that piece of kit because they will be able to produce the same standard of work.
Sadly, it does not always work that way, furthermore many of the best conscious Photography Educators will always say to their photography students, “Take my ideas and bring about your own style of shooting”.
Sadly, I feel some get a little bit frustrated when they are struggling to produce images like there Photography idols, or Social Media Mentors who they are following online via social media.
Before you spend your money, be sure what you want to achieve with a new piece of kit, because I see people buying photography kit and they again struggle to find the time to practice techniques, in order to master the techniques and the art of posing they have seen online.
As one Photography Educator often says, “guys like the great Michael Jordan did not achieve what he was able to do without practising”, even the most basic of techniques need to be tuned, especially; if you want to be the best you can be.
Just a thought this Monday Morning
